Two Tanzanian nationals are receiving treatment at the Kajiado County Referral Hospital after being injured when violent protests from Tanzania spilled over into the Namanga border.
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi said the two were referred from Namanga Sub- County Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds inflicted by Tanzanian police officers.
“The two victims, both Tanzanian nationals, had gunshot injuries after being shot by Tanzanian police. They were first taken to Namanga Sub- County Hospital before being transferred to Kajiado County Referral Hospital for further treatment,” said Shikondi.
He noted that although operations at the Namanga border were temporarily disrupted, the situation had begun to normalize, with joint patrols by security forces from both countries ongoing.
However, several businesses remain closed as traders wait for calm to be fully restored.
Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo warned Kenyans against attempting to cause chaos along the Kenya–Tanzania border, saying those involved will face the law.
Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku urged residents living near the border to maintain peace and protect property, stressing that stability is key to national development.
Eyewitnesses reported that hundreds of demonstrators crossed into Kenyan territory, barricading roads, lighting bonfires, and burning posters of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, denouncing Wednesday’s presidential and parliamentary elections as fraudulent.
