Ugunja CDF to construct digital hubs

The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) will spend over five million shillings to construct a digital hub in Ugunja, area CDF chairman Benard Omollo Were has said.

According to Mr Were, his committee was committed to implementing the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, where all wards countrywide are supposed to have digital hubs.

Speaking during the disbursement of CDF bursaries, the chairman said that all three wards in Ugunja constituency will have the hubs.

“In our plans, we will have subsequent hubs in two other wards, that is, Sidindi and Sigomere,” he said, adding, “This is in line with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy that we are supposed to have digital hubs in all the wards.”

Apart from the construction of the hubs, Mr Were said that the CDF will also equip the facilities.

He said that the hubs will help solve the problem of youth unemployment by creating opportunities for them to engage on available online opportunities.

On bursaries, the CDF chairman said that Ugunja constituency has so far disbursed over Sh. 43 million to various category of students hailing from the area.

He said that the fund will also finance the purchase of three school buses during this financial year.

Mr Were said that the committee has further allocated three million shillings for the skills development of the local youth.

The Kenya Medical Training College, Ugunja campus principal, Moses Konje hailed the CDF for coming to the aid of needy students.

He said that most of the KMTC students have been having challenges paying fees and it was the CDF that has been helping subsidise their cost of education.

During the event, the CDF disbursed a total of sh. 13,269,000/= that will benefit 1,742 students in secondary schools.
