Wamatangi offers financial support to Boda Boda Saccos in Gatundu South

As part of the ongoing Kazi na Boda rollout, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has issued empowerment cheques to boda-boda Saccos in four Gatundu South wards.

The program continues to prioritize the economic empowerment of Kiambu’s transport sector through direct financial support to organized Saccos.

The funding will benefit Saccos across four key wards i.e., Ndarugu, Kiganjo, Kiamwangi, and Ngenda, with support that is specifically structured to enhance member savings, unlock more affordable loans, and stimulate new business opportunities for riders in the region.

The programme is part of an ambitious 60-ward rollout designed to reach every corner of the county, recognizing the boda-boda sector as a vital economic engine, seeking to turn daily labor into sustainable prosperity for riders across the region.

Speaking at the event of the cheque disbursement, the governor emphasized that the program’s core mission is to professionalize the boda-boda sector by motivating riders to join Saccos with the county establishing a formal framework that guarantees better financial discipline, collective savings, and easier access to credit.

“By offering access to low-interest loans, we are empowering riders to grow their own investments, which will ensure that they no longer have to depend on costly lending platforms that often leave hardworking individuals trapped in vicious debt cycles,” said Wamatangi.

“We recognize that thousands of young people rely on the boda-boda industry for their livelihoods; therefore, through this initiative, we aren’t just giving support, we are empowering riders to transform their hard work into a secure financial future for their families,” stated the governor.

The Governor underscored that this was a countywide commitment, stating that his administration would ensure the roll-out extends to all corners of Kiambu with a clear roadmap that would reach every single ward.

On their part, local riders are optimistic, noting that the financial boost is a vital step toward long-term stability for their transport businesses. By making use of structured Sacco loans, the operators expressed confidence that they can now acquire their own motorcycles and scale up their businesses while finally escaping the trap of high-interest lenders to meet their personal financial goals.

“Ultimately, the Kazi na Boda program is about teaching riders how to save and work together through Saccos. By helping these groups stay organized, Kiambu County is giving young people a real chance to grow their own businesses and making sure thousands of riders can stand on their own feet and build a better, more secure future for their families,” explained the governor.
