Residents of Migori and Kehancha towns have urged the Migori county government to restore water supply that has been missing for almost a month.
The frustrated residents said that the precious commodity was affecting their daily businesses and depleting their profits as they have to buy water daily.
Peter Otieno, a hotel owner in Migori town, lamented that he has been forced to purchase water with a 20-litre Jerrican costing between Sh10 and Sh20.
“I am using a lot of my profits to purchase water for the daily operations of my business, yet we have been paying the county government to supply the commodity,” he bewailed.
Rhoda Okello, a fishmonger in Migori town, said that the empty taps have frustrated the business owners who are struggling to maintain their premises.
“My business requires a lot of hygiene to operate, and lack of water is giving us sleepless nights on how we can continue to operate,” she narrated.
Omahe Mwita, a businessman from Kehancha town, added that it was very wrong for residents to pay their bills yet they do not receive water in their taps.
Omahe said that they have been forced to rely on borehole water that is not healthy for human consumption.
“We have a lot of mining sites that use chemicals in the leaching process to extract gold, which makes the borehole water contaminated and unhealthy for consumption”, said Omahe.
The residents of the two municipalities, Migori and Kehancha, have urged the Migori Water and Sanitation Company (MIWASCO) to move with speed and address the matter and restore water in the taps in the two major towns.
When contacted the county management team in charge of the water services has, however, remained silent on the matter.
