Despite  floods being experienced in Ijara, a severe water shortage has hit Masalani town, Ijara sub county  in  Garissa  County exposing residents to eminent waterborne diseases such as cholera.

Residents of Masalani town have been suffering due to lack of clean water for past five days following technical breakdown at a pump on the river Tana.

According to sub County Water Coordinator, Eng. Daud Mohamed the pump breakdown was caused by the silt at the intake of river Tana.

Eng. Mohammed said they were working to restore normal water flow and appealed to residents to be patient.

The pump at the intake was bought a month ago and it cost the county government Sh.1.5million.
