National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has rallied leaders and residents from the Western region to fully support President William Ruto’s administration noting that the President has invested substantial national resources in the region.
Wetang’ula said that the western region has never witnessed such transformative development under previous administrations.
Speaking at Bulimbo in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County on Sunday, Wetang’ula who was accompanied by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Senators and Members of Parliament among other leaders, assured the residents that funds for the completion of development projects initiated by President William Ruto will be factored into the national budget.
“I worked with late President Daniel Arap Moi, late President Mwai Kibaki and I was a cabinet minister; I have worked in the Senate under President Uhuru Kenyatta and now we are with President Ruto. There has never been a time when our region has been illuminated with development as it is now,” he said.
He urged legislators to take advantage of the ongoing budget process in the National Assembly to ensure resources are set aside to complete projects across the region.
“I am calling upon all MPs from the region to utilize the current budget-making process to secure sufficient funds for the completion of these projects,” he said.
The Speaker noted that President Ruto had revived several development initiatives launched by previous administrations but which later stalled.
He cited the revival of Mumias and Nzoia sugar factories, the tarmacking of roads, and construction of markets and development of hostels in public institutions under the Affordable Housing Programme among other projects.
Speaking during the same function, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa noted that construction of the stalled Kakamega Level 6 Hospital had resumed following intervention by the President.
“Construction works are ongoing after both the national and county governments allocated funds to the project, which will transform healthcare services in the region,” Barasa said.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot said the Kenya Kwanza administration has set a record by employing more than 100,000 teachers in less than three years.
Speakers at the forum, who included Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, MPs Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani), Oscar Nabulindo (Matungu) and presidential aide Farouk Kibet urged the residents to support the broad-based government while chiding the opposition for engaging in divisive politics at the expense of development.
