Youths encouraged to apply for climate workx Jobs

Mombasa youth have been urged to take advantage of the 18,300 climate Workx job opportunities announced by the government during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay.

President William Ruto announced the nationwide rollout of the ambitious Climate workx initiative, which aims to engage 110,000 youth across all 47 counties. The programme was initially launched in Nairobi last year.

Designed as a social protection initiative, Climate Workx will involve youth in delivering essential public goods such as road construction and maintenance, tree planting, and environmental sanitation improvements within their communities.

Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor revealed that 18,300 slots have been allocated to the county and youth would be able to apply for these opportunities via a link that would be shared later this week.

Successful applicants will receive a daily stipend of Sh500.

“We would like our youth to apply for the opportunities. We will later convene as the County Implementation Committee to identify the roads that will be maintained in partnership with the Ministry of Roads,” appealed the CC.

He urged the youth not to miss out, noting that the jobs were expected to commence next week, as directed by the President.

“To qualify, applicants must have a national identity card, be residents of Mombasa, and fall within the youth age bracket,” he clarified.

He assured the public that the job slots would be distributed equitably across all six sub-counties: Mvita, Likoni, Nyali, Changamwe, Kisauni, and Jomvu.

The CC added that the initiative was expected to help curb juvenile delinquency in Mombasa, which has been fuelled by widespread youth unemployment and idleness.
