Mandera County Government has laid the foundation stone for the construction of 10 new classrooms at Mandera Teachers Training College.
The project is directly funded by the Office of the President with President William Ruto issuing the directive during his visit to Mandera County last week.
The newly constructed classrooms are expected to benefit more than 500 trainees who are set to join the teachers training college.
While laying the foundation stone for the 10 classrooms, Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif emphasized the importance of completing the project on time to enable more students to enroll in the college.
“This project must be completed on time to ensure that our aspiring teachers have a conducive learning environment,” he stated.
He further noted that the Northern region, particularly Mandera County, has experienced a mass exodus of teachers due to terror-related activities.
“The loss of teachers has deeply affected our education sector. With these classrooms, we aim to restore confidence and encourage more educators to stay and teach in Mandera,” he added.
The Governor also encouraged more students to enroll in teaching colleges across the county for the betterment of the region’s education system.
With the completion of these classrooms, it will be a game-changer in the education sector in Mandera County.
The principal of Mandera Teachers Training College Issack Abdullahi stated that the new classrooms would help ease congestion at the institution once completed.
“This development will significantly improve the learning conditions for our students. We are grateful for the support and look forward to the project’s completion,” he added.
Students at MTTC expressed their gratitude to the President for his generous gesture and vowed to make the most of the new facilities.
“We appreciate the President for this effort to enhance our learning environment. It gives us hope for a better future,” he added.
President William Ruto visited Mandera last week and pledged to enhance the education sector in the Northern region.
