Zetech University has expanded its postgraduate programmes with the introduction of a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Relations and Diplomacy, amid a growing demand in the courses.
The university said the programmes come at a time when international relations and diplomacy are undergoing significant transformation, with technology, climate change, global health, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital governance and economic diplomacy increasingly shaping relations between countries.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene said the course will help churn out a new generation of professionals and scholars capable of analyzing emerging trends and contributing evidence-based solutions to international affairs.
Speaking on the new programmes, he noted that diplomacy is now influenced not only by political and economic interests but also by technology, data, climate change, security and trade.
“The world is changing rapidly, and the practice of international relations must evolve with it,” Prof. Munene said
He said the programmes would equip learners with skills to critically understand global shifts, generate data-based evidence and contribute meaningfully to policy and international affairs.
The programmes, he said, also align with Kenya’s Foreign Policy 2024, the national, regional and continental development priorities, including Kenya’s Vision 2030, the East African Community Vision 2050 and the African Union Agenda 2063, as well as global priorities under the United Nations Pact for the Future.
“Technology has increasingly become a subject of diplomacy, with artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance, digital sovereignty, misinformation and emerging technologies raising new questions around international cooperation, regulation, security and power,” said Prof Munene.
He cited the 2025 UNESCO Tech Diplomacy Forum that brought together stakeholders to discuss issues including digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the digital divide, as an example of the growing intersection between technology, policy and diplomacy.
Prof Munene said the new postgraduate programmes strengthen the university’s commitment to developing professionals, researchers and thought leaders equipped to navigate an increasingly complex global environment.
