Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki has donated tents with a combined capacity of 100 people and Sh100,000 to Muungano Welfare Miriingi Community-Based Organization (CBO) to support its income-generating activities.
Speaking during a ceremony held at Kirumi Location in Mwimbi Sub-county, Mbiuki said the donation was in response to the group’s request and would enable members to hire out the tents during social functions, generating income to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their welfare.
The MP commended the members for demonstrating self-reliance by purchasing chairs using their own resources, urging them to continue working together and investing in sustainable projects.
“I will continue supporting this newly established CBO, but it is important that the group has a clear vision and development plan. Some welfare groups rely entirely on politicians for funding without well-defined objectives. Remain united, support your local leaders and avoid internal wrangles that could weaken the welfare,” said Mbiuki.
He also called on residents to shun divisive politics, saying unity among the three constituencies in Tharaka Nithi County was essential for equitable development.
“No part of the county should be sidelined because every constituency is important and deserves equal development,” he said.
Mbiuki further said that if elected Governor in the 2027 General Election, he would revive programmes that previously benefited farmers, including the distribution of free fertiliser and maize seeds, and complete stalled development projects to boost agricultural production.
The legislator also pledged to construct an office for Kirumi sub location Assistant Chief at Miriingi near the cattle dip on land identified by residents as the most central and accessible location for the community.
Residents welcomed the donations and the development commitments, expressing optimism that the support would strengthen the welfare group and improve service delivery in the area.
