Osotsi urges humane approach in Shanta Gold evictions

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has called for a more humane and structured approach in the ongoing gold exploration activities by Shanta Gold in Munungo area, Mwibona Ward, Luanda Sub-County, following recent clashes that left several people dead.

During a visit to the area, Senator Osotsi expressed concern over the tensions that have escalated between residents and the company, noting that the unrest was triggered by attempts to relocate locals without a clear and comprehensive resettlement plan.

He strongly condemned the forceful eviction of residents, urging Shanta Gold to adopt a more humane and transparent process. “There is a need to undertake this exercise in a more humane manner to avoid unnecessary confusion and loss of lives,” he said.

Residents have been protesting the planned evictions, citing lack of proper communication and uncertainty about their future. Senator Osotsi called on all stakeholders, including government agencies and the company, to engage in dialogue and ensure that the rights of the affected community are upheld.
