Farmers receive 100,000 high-yield coffee seedlings

Kisii County government has issued 100,000 Ruiru 11 coffee seedlings for free to boost coffee farming and production in the county.

Speaking after flagging off the seedlings at the Kisii Agricultural Training Centre on the outskirts of Kisii town, Governor Simba Arati said the distributed variety of seedlings is expected to produce high yields, with farmers harvesting at least five kilograms of coffee cherries per plant per season.

Governor Arati noted the increased production will improve the livelihoods of the farmers and encouraged more residents to venture into coffee farming.

He encouraged the farmers to embrace good crop practices, including the application of the right fertilizers and pesticides for maximum yields.

The Governor added the County had also secured an investor for the construction of a caffeine extraction factory at the County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency to further strengthen the coffee sector in the county.
