New KMTC tuition block in Kiambaa constituency nears completion

Construction of the new tuition block at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Karuri Campus in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, has reached a significant milestone, with tiling works now underway.

Kiambaa Member of Parliament (MP) John Njuguna, alias ‘Kawanjiku’ in a progress update, said the modern tuition block represents the constituency’s commitment to expanding access to quality medical education and strengthening healthcare training in the region.

The MP noted that the project, financed through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is part of a broader investment strategy aimed at improving educational infrastructure and creating opportunities for young people seeking careers in the health sector.

“Another milestone has been achieved as tiling works commence at the new state-of-the-art KMTC tuition block. This progress brings us closer to delivering a world-class learning facility that will empower students, strengthen healthcare training, and contribute to building a brighter future for our community,” KaWanjiku added.

He affirmed that the project reflects the constituency’s focus on visible and impactful development.

“Development is not a promise; it is work that can be seen and felt by the people. Through NG-CDF, we are investing in facilities that will directly benefit our youth and improve service delivery in the long term,” the lawmaker explained.

The expansion comes at a time when KMTC has significantly broadened its academic programmes nationally to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals both locally and internationally.

While the institution traditionally focused on nursing, clinical medicine, and community health courses, it now offers training in specialized fields including emergency medical technology, occupational therapy, health records and information technology, orthopedic trauma medicine, nutrition and dietetics, mortuary science, medical engineering, and healthcare management.

In recent years, the institution has also established partnerships that have enabled graduates to secure employment opportunities in countries facing shortages of healthcare workers, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and parts of the Middle East.

According to KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch, the college is exploring a strategic partnership with the African Business Community (ABC) to prepare students for international employment opportunities, particularly in Germany.

He announced this in March 2026, following a closed-door meeting with a delegation from ABC, an international recruitment agency specializing in healthcare placements in Germany, recruiting professionals such as physiotherapists, nurses, dentists, dental technologists, community oral health officers, pharmacists, and occupational therapists.
