The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has launched a five-day Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA) sensitization caravan roadshow across Vihiga County as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen prevention, awareness, and community engagement on substance abuse issues.
The initiative was officially flagged off by Vihiga Deputy County Commissioner Linet Orina, who commended NACADA for taking prevention messages directly to communities and enhancing access to support services.
The roadshow aims to increase public awareness of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse while promoting the use of NACADA’s toll-free helpline, 1192, through which individuals can access information, counseling support, and referrals for treatment services.
Speaking during the launch, NACADA officials, led by area regional Coordinator Eunice Anubia, noted that the campaign seeks to empower residents with vital prevention messages, provide referrals for counseling and rehabilitation services, and collect feedback from communities to improve the authority’s programs and interventions within the county.
Throughout the five-day exercise, the caravan will traverse major trading centers and remote villages across Vihiga County, engaging residents through public awareness sessions, educational messages, and interactive community forums.
The roadshow underscores NACADA’s commitment to bringing prevention services closer to the people, ensuring that individuals affected by alcohol and drug abuse can access timely information and support.
By fostering community participation and strengthening awareness, NACADA hopes to contribute to the creation of healthier, safer, and drug-free communities across Vihiga County.
