Kiambu County Conducts ICT Skills Assessment to Enhance Service Delivery

Kiambu County is stepping up its digital transformation agenda with the appointment of a new Chief Officer for E-Government and the continued expansion of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system aimed at improving service delivery and revenue collection.

The Department of Finance, ICT and Economic Planning officially welcomed the newly appointed Chief Officer for E-Government, Derrick Kiprono, during a courtesy meeting held at the county’s finance department in Kiambu Town.

The meeting was led by County Executive Committee Member for Finance, ICT and Economic Planning Nancy Kirumba and attended by Chief Officer for Finance CPA Zachary Gitau, Chief Officer for ICT Jacque Kimani and Chief Officer for Revenue Solomon Kibue.

The forum provided an opportunity to acquaint Kiprono with the department’s mandate and ongoing programmes geared towards enhancing efficiency through technology, sound financial management and strategic economic planning.

His appointment comes at a time when the county is accelerating the implementation of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, with an additional 500 Point of Sale (POS) devices set to be deployed across various revenue collection points.

The devices, which are currently undergoing configuration and installation by ICT officers, are expected to strengthen accountability and improve service delivery by streamlining revenue collection processes.

Once operational, the devices will support revenue collection in parking services, cess, quarries, slaughter fees, market fees, veterinary services, regulatory services, county library services and tourism.

Speaking after assuming office, Kiprono said technology remains a critical pillar in transforming public service delivery and enhancing efficiency in county operations.

“My commitment is to work closely with all stakeholders to strengthen e-government systems and ensure residents receive efficient, transparent and responsive services. The ongoing digital initiatives will play a significant role in improving revenue management and supporting sustainable development in Kiambu County,” Kiprono added.

He noted that leveraging technology and innovation would enable the county government to provide better services while promoting accountability and prudent utilization of public resources.

The Department of Finance, ICT and Economic Planning expressed confidence that the new Chief Officer’s leadership will bolster ongoing reforms and further advance the county’s vision of creating a digitally enabled and economically vibrant devolved unit.

The ongoing automation efforts are expected to enhance revenue collection and support effective delivery of services to residents across Kiambu County.
