Homa bay county Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have backed calls for a full autonomy of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to facilitate smooth operation of the Curriculum Based Education.
The officials called for separation of JSS from both primary and Senior Secondary Schools to ensure that the cadre had a distinctive administrative framework and run as an independent entity.
They officials told a press conference that all was not well, where the JSS was domiciled under the primary school administration
The branch Executive Stephen Yogo and branch Chairperson Jack Okoth maintained that the JSS should be granted full autonomy by the government.
Yogo said full autonomy would strengthen curricular and co-curricular activities undertaken by students in JSS.
The branch Chairperson Jack Okoth said that the government’s decision to domicile JSS within primary schools has created widespread confusion, particularly in areas such as school administration, sports, and co-curricular activities.
Okoth argued that JSS level should be an independent entity, with their own administrative structures, resources and curriculum.
