The Maji Moto residents have raised alarm over rampant illegal sale of plots at the Maji Moto trading center, where unsuspecting buyers are given fake title deeds.
Maji Moto ward Member of County Assembly Daniel Kilerai, who led the residents to the County Urban and Physical Planning offices to report the double allocation of plots, said the issue was causing tension among residents in the area.
He said the land brokers had processed fake maps and title deeds, which they were using to con the unsuspecting members of the public.
The MCA called on physical planning office to visit the area and resolve the issue before it escalates to affect more people.
“Today we matched to the county offices to inform them of the developing land scandal at Maji Moto trading center. If this issue is not addressed early enough, it could lead to chaos in the community,” he said.
Mzee Wilson Kisio said they sought refuge from the MCA when they realized that the fake plots were being sold to innocent buyers.
He reiterated that the issue of land is very sensitive and called on transparency when allocating plots in the growing trading center.
He lamented that the criminals have gone ahead to divide the land set apart for public utilities like market, cemetery and hospital.
“We want transparency and fairness on the issue of plots here in Maji Moto. Those who have grabbed public utilities must be compelled to return,” he said.
Land is an emotive issue in Narok County as the fraudsters take advantage of the illiterate community to issue fake land documents, only to disappear after receiving money from the innocent buyers.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Land, Housing and Urban development Ms. Vivian Sereti said her office will hold a mega meeting at Maji Moto trading center to try and resolve the emerging land issue.
She thanked the members of the public for raising the issue early enough to resolve it early enough before it escalate to violence.
