In the heart of Mumias, hope came alive as women, youth, and persons living with disabilities received essential tools to help build their livelihoods and transform their futures.
The economic empowerment initiative is spearheaded by Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
She said the fund seeks to convert community-based groups into sustainable local enterprises.
During the event yesterday, dozens of beneficiaries received sewing machines, salon equipment, car wash machines, and modern farming tools.
“I have been struggling to raise my children through casual work,” said one excited beneficiary as she clutched her new sewing machine. “With this, I can finally start my own tailoring shop.”
Muhanda said the initiative is part of her broader vision to make empowerment tangible and practical in people’s daily lives.
“Empowerment must be felt, not just heard. It should change lives in our homes and villages,” she said.
She further assured residents that NGAAF resources are being managed transparently to ensure every shilling benefits the intended recipients.
“I want my voters to see their money working for them,” she added.
Local leaders and community members lauded the effort, saying it restores dignity, confidence and hope for many struggling families across Mumias sub county.
