A Migori County Assembly Member has claimed that his life is in danger after moving to initiate the impeachment motion to remove Migori Deputy Governor Joseph Mahiri.
Tagare Ward MCA Moses Magwe alleged that he has been receiving threats since preparing documents seeking the deputy governor’s removal from office.
He accused the deputy governor of neglecting his duties and failing to fulfil his mandate.
Last Thursday, the MCA was recorded on video being attacked during a public event attended by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and his Deputy Joseph Mahiri in Tagare Ward Kuria, where he was forcibly removed from the venue.
Magwe, who reported the threats to the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, disclosed that he has information about individuals allegedly hired to track him and potentially harm him.
According to the MCA, the impeachment motion is nearly complete and will be presented to the Migori County Assembly once all legal and evidentiary requirements are met.
The county lawmaker insisted that the motion is well-prepared and backed by enough documentation to meet legal standards.
Deputy Governor Joseph Mahiri has, however, dismissed the accusations and the impeachment claims, calling them baseless.
He maintained that the county leadership stays united and that Magwe’s statements are misleading and politically motivated.
Mahiri urged county leaders to concentrate on unity and service rather than divisive politics.
He called for cooperation among Migori leaders to promote peace and development in the county.
