By A, KNA

Machakos County Commissioner (CC) Josephine Ouko has called on area residents and other stakeholders to unite in the fight against drugs and substance abuse that had devastating effects on youths and families in the area.

Speaking during the Mashujaa day Celebrations at St. Mary’s primary in Tala, Matungulu constituency, Ouko emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in curbing drug abuse and supply chains, while raising awareness on their effects in schools and the overall wellbeing of the society.

The CC further expounded on how working together can ensure a safer and healthier community, while encouraging the locals to share information on drug and illicit brew dens, as well as seeking for help for those in need of rehabilitation.

She also informed residents of the availability of 220 units of completed affordable housing units, urging any interested persons to register and acquire them, so as to reduce the growing housing costs and enable families to have better living conditions in a dignified environment.

The CC further commended Machakos residents for embracing SHA, with a total of 614,815 registered members in the area.

Ouko noted that through SHA, the country was assured of a vibrant and productive community, complete with universal health coverage for every citizen.

The CC also informed farmers on the availability of government subsidized fertilizers and encouraged them to start preparing their farms for the impending short rains.
