The Kenya Moja Alliance leaders have challenged the government to comprehensively address grievances raised by Kenyans concerning the education and health sectors.
Speaking during a widow’s empowerment fundraiser in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna said the four major national priorities proposed by President William Ruto during the State of the Nation address would not provide solutions to the challenges faced by the citizens.
Sifuna told the government to issue certificates to 2024 candidates and find a lasting solution regarding the fate of Junior Secondary School (JSS) interns as well as the university funding model.
The Secretary General faulted the roll out of the Social Health Authority programme saying that mothers were being detained in health facilities due to unpaid bills.
He told members of the ODM party allied to the broad-based government to allow those in opposition to criticise the government of the day.
Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, noted that despite President Ruto announcing an increment in tea export earnings to Sh 215 billion, tea farmers in Kisii received bonuses as low as six shillings.
The MP drummed up support for Dr Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid, adding that he had diligently served the country as a Cabinet Secretary.
Her counterpart from Saboti Constituency, Caleb Amisi also castigated members of the ODM Party who claimed that the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga told them to support the government until the 2027 general elections.
According to Amisi, the Ruto-Raila 10-point agenda was an agreement between the two leaders and the ODM party was set to leave the government early next year.
Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo said they had come together to support the widows in Kisii after the government failed to fulfill the promises it made to Kenyans during the campaign period.
Other Kenya Moja Alliance allied MPs present included Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti) and Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South), Jack Omboka (Bumula) and Ojiambo Oundo (Funyula), among others.
The event, hosted by MP Obadiah Barongo, raised over three million to boost the economic activities of widows in the region.
