Kajiado Diocesan Anglican Bishop Gadiel Lenini has called on Purko ward residents to maintain peace,unity and political sobriety as they vote on November 27 by-election.
Addressing the media at his office in Kajiado, Bishop Lenini said that the voters and candidates should maintain calm, uphold the rule of law and exercise restraint in case of any grievances.
“I urge our brothers and sisters to vote and go home after voting. Maintain peace before, during and after the exercise. I also want to urge other Kajiado residents to stay out of Purko ward by-elections and stop trying to influence the people’s voice as the people have a right to vote for their own leader,” urged the Bishop.
The Purko Member of County Assembly seat fell vacant after the death of Simon Saitoti who died in March 2025 after a short illness.
Three candidates will battle out in the hotly contested seat.
Amos Mpusia who is the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) candidate will face off with Simon Sanare, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)and Daniel Naikuni, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate.
The ward has 4,848 registered voters with 8 polling centres and 12 polling stations.
At a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday, The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, Edung Ethekon, said that the commission is fully prepared for Thursday’s countrywide by-elections and assured voters and candidates of a transparent and credible process.
