Sh350 million to supply electricity to 6,000 households in Khwisero

The Government has allocated Sh350 million to Khwisero Sub-County to connect more than 6,000 households to electricity under the Last Mile Connectivity Programme, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi has said.

Wandayi said the allocation was part of the Government’s wider investment in electricity connectivity, with about Sh2.5 billion allocated for electrification projects across Kakamega County during the current financial year.

The CS was speaking in Kisa West Ward, Khwisero Sub-County, where he flagged off construction materials for Last Mile Connectivity projects targeting more than 500 households in Eshiabalika and Eshitimba villages.

He said the projects would improve the livelihoods of residents by expanding access to electricity for homes, schools, health facilities, and businesses.

Wandayi said the Government was committed to ensuring that more households in rural areas are connected to the national grid, noting that electricity access was critical to stimulating economic activities and improving service delivery.

He urged residents who would benefit from the projects to use electricity to establish and expand small businesses, saying increased connectivity would create opportunities for employment and income generation.

The CS was accompanied by Nyando MP Jared Okello, Malava MP Oscar Nabulindo, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, and other leaders.

The leaders said the electricity projects would transform the targeted villages by enabling residents to engage in productive activities that require reliable power.

The projects are being implemented through Kenya Power and the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) as part of efforts to expand electricity access to underserved communities.
