Agricultural sector experts convened in a Machakos hotel to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the National Agri-Food Systems Implementation Plan (NASIP) 2026-2030, as Kenya moves to accelerate transformation of its agri-food systems.
The two-day forum focused on strengthening coordination and translating the five-year plan from policy into actionable interventions at national and county levels.
The meeting was led by the Acting Coordinator of the Agri-Food Systems Transformation Office (ASTO), Josephine Love, and has brought together representatives from national government, county governments, development partners, private sector and farmers’ organizations.
Ms. Love said the forum seeks to establish a clear, coordinated framework to guide NASIP implementation and ensure all actors have clarity on their roles in driving the country’s agricultural transformation.
“The deliberations are aimed at developing a clear and coordinated framework that will guide implementation of NASIP over the five-year period,” she said.
Central to the discussions are NASIP’s core pillars, including boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening value chains, enhancing food and nutrition security, scaling up climate-smart agriculture and improving market access for farmers.
The forum comes at a critical juncture as the government shifts from policy formulation to execution, with emphasis on making Kenya’s agri-food systems more productive, resilient and inclusive.
Participants were expected to define priority actions, assign implementation responsibilities and agree on mechanisms for monitoring and accountability throughout the 2026-2030 period.
The resolutions from the Machakos meeting will inform the final implementation roadmap and align stakeholders and resources towards the country’s agri-food transformation agenda.
