The Tana River County Civil Registrar (CCR) has said 25,621 children who are expected to join Form One in January do not have birth certificates.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Tana River County Human Resource Advisory committee meeting in Hola, the CCR, Joseph Kamau said, no student will be allowed to join Form One without a birth certificate.
Kamau said, his office was experiencing a severe shortage of staff to process the thousands of birth certificates needed before January, 2020.
He appealed for additional staff from the National Government who will team up with four staff in his office to process the over 25,000 birth certificates to enable those affected to join schools next year.
Chairing the meeting Tana River Assistant County Commissioner, Geoffrey Mwachofi called on Chiefs and their Assistants to mobilize parents to ensure they send their children to acquire birth certificates urgently before January 2020.
Mwachofi called on the parents who have children joining Form One next year not to wait for last minute rush but obtain the certificates now.
