Authority issues stern warning to gangs in Hamisi

Residents of Shaviringa sub-location in Hamisi sub-county have been urged to desist from engaging in criminal activities including stock theft, thuggery, burglary, and mugging that have become rampant in the area.

Vihiga County Commissioner (CC) Felix Watakila has sounded a stern warning to the criminals, stating that their days were numbered.

Speaking during a public security meeting in the area on Monday, the CC appealed to the people to pass information on bad elements in their midst to the security agencies in order for the appropriate action to be taken.

Watakila also pointed out the issue of sexual violence, where women and girls are being subjected to rape and defilement, which are acts that constitute serious offences in the country’s laws and statutes.

On her part, the area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Ruth Lurete called on the citizens to be each other’s keeper and asked the Nyumba Kumi community policing team to discharge their mandate effectively so as to bring down the crime rate.

Lurete observed that the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) are ready to work with the citizenry for the realisation of law and order in the communities.

Hamisi Sub County Police Commander (SCPC) Ruth Lang’at asked the people to cooperate with investigators by recording statements that would be used to charge the suspects in court.

The SCPC assured those who would provide information that the same would be treated with confidentiality and that their identities would not be disclosed unless absolutely necessary.
