The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) empowerment programme has been hailed as a good step towards the empowerment of women in Bomet County.
The County Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir Toto has said through NGAAF initiatives, the government was marking a significant milestone in the efforts, aimed at economically empowering women, youth, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups across the county.
Chepkorir was speaking in Bomet town during an empowerment forum presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services, Hanna Cheptumo, where she called upon the women and vulnerable persons to seek government support through NGAAF to initiate sustainable development activities and entrepreneurship for self-reliance.
The women rep reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women, youth and vulnerable groups by providing them with opportunities and resources to improve their livelihoods.
She thanked the government of Kenya and President William Ruto for prioritizing women empowerment through many other initiatives alongside NGAAF.
On her part, Cheptumo lauded the Bomet County women empowerment initiative, noting that NGAAF remains a key government programme, aimed at promoting economic empowerment, reducing poverty and ensuring no vulnerable Kenyan is left behind.
The launch saw the distribution of various empowerment items and support packages to beneficiary groups across the county.
These included Community-Based Organization (CBO) cheques, tents and chairs, sewing machines, barber shaving machines, blow-dry machines, wheelchairs, trolleys, aprons, boda boda umbrellas, mama mboga umbrellas, car wash equipment and support for driving licenses acquisition.
The Bomet NGAAF programme also continues to support bursaries, table banking initiatives, micro-financing and community development projects, aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods and strengthening grassroots economic growth.
