Committee to oversee all govt Projects

All heads of National Government Ministries, Departments, and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) have been directed to prepare reports of all projects, programmes, and policies being implemented in their jurisdictions as the National Government moves to fast-track their implementation.

Kakamega County Commissioner Mr. John Ondego, when launching the National Government Development County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC) for the county, said the status reports help track all projects, programmes, and policies.

He said this will also ensure the committee unlocks any challenges hindering their implementation.

“The committee will visit, evaluate, and resolve some of the challenges that implementers could be facing and escalate them to the National Government Development Regional Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-RICMC),” he said.

“This will further be escalated to the Principal Secretaries (PSs) committee to fast-track completion in the event of bottlenecks,” he added.

The committee is chaired by the County Commissioner, and membership is composed of all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) at the county level, with the Regional Director and County Government Delivery Services (GDS) heading the Secretariat.

The Western Regional Head of Secretariat, Mr. Silvance Osele, said the whole government approach to project implementation will help enhance efficiency by reducing bureaucracy and ensuring timely implementation, which in effect saves on public resources.

Osele, who is also in charge of the Nyanza region, said the committee will be periodically visiting a number of the projects to assess their progress.

Operations of the GDS (initially known as the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU)) is domiciled at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Musalia Mudavadi, and seek to help in the realisation of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
