Conduct peaceful campaigns, residents told

By C, KNA

Bungoma County Commissioner Thomas Sankei has called on residents of Kapchai Constituency in Bungoma Central Sub-County to ensure they carry out peaceful campaigns in the forthcoming by election for Chwele -Kapchai ward.

He told the residents to desist from carrying dangerous items during the campaign rallies and instead enhance harmony amongst themselves in order to have a credible election for the seat which fell vacant following the death of the area Member of County Assembly early this year.

Mr. Sankei was speaking at Bokoli boys high school grounds in Webuye West Sub-County during celebrations to mark Mashujaa day.

He asked leaders in the area to co-operate and work closely with security officers posted to the area in order to put in place strategies that will enhance security and local development.

Sankei read the President’s speech to hundreds of residents who turned up for the celebrations.

Speaking during the same event, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the county government was working towards transforming agriculture into profitable enterprise to benefit the residents.

This he said had been done through distribution of subsidized fertilizers, certified seeds and promotion of irrigation.

Lusaka asked the area residents to register as voters in large numbers in the ongoing registration exercise by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to enable them elect leaders of their choice.
