Criminal gangs in Trans Nzoia County have been put on the spot following a series of attacks on innocent civilians.
Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Gitwamba Primary School in Sabot Sub County, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi warned the government will use all means to ensure all those behind criminal activities in the region are brought to book.
Citing the latest incident where a police officer was brutally killed in Matisi slums by criminals, Oyagi said police are piecing together information which will lead to arrest of all those behind the attack.
As he assured residents security, calm and order during Christmas festivities, Oyagi said the county security team has put in place necessary surveillance measures to ensure a smooth flow.
However, he reminded the public has a noble duty to play in ensuring prevalence of security and urged residents to volunteer information which will lead to arrest of suspicious characters.
Meanwhile, Oyagi challenged leaders and administrators to join hands in the fight against drug and substance abuse saying the vice has destroyed many lives.
“The government will not watch as our people go down as a result of drugs and substance abuse. I want to put on notice all drug dealers and illegal brewers to stop their activities before we catch up with them,” he said.
Reminding village elders to be on top of things and volunteer information, Oyagi said the decision by the President to consider them for payment is welcome and should act as an extra motivation for them to deliver.
” I am not authorizing you to go fight criminals and drug traffickers. Instead, I urge you to volunteer information which will assist to arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
As the country slowly rolls sleeves for 2027 general election, Oyagi called for political tolerance and urged leaders to preach peace and unity, challenging the public not to allow themselves to be divided on political or tribal lines.
“Trans Nzoia is a small Kenya where all tribes are found. In the past we have lived peacefully and used this to our advantage. As 2027 slowly approaches, don’t allow yourselves to be divided because of politics,” he rallied.
Present during the celebrations was Trans Nzoia county Governor George Natembeya who reminded leaders to be selfless and think about the plight of many others who are less privileged.
“We cannot celebrate the fruits of freedom when many other Kenyans are squatters and don’t have something to put on the table. It is high time leaders have to reflect on the many issues bedeviling Kenyans in order to make it a better place for all,” he said.
