Cabinet Secretary-In-Charge of Defense, Soipan Tuya, has reassured that the upcoming Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise, will be free from corruption.
Ms. Tuya said her Ministry will engage various government agencies that fight corruption, to ensure that the process is free, fair and transparent.
“We will engage the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), National Intelligence Service (NIS), National Police Service (NPS) and the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), to ensure fairness in the entire process,” said the CS.
She stated that for many years, genuine but poor young people, have failed the test in the recruitment exercise, as the processes are marred with bribes, where people sell their land and other precious property, to secure a chance in the military.
“We have seen many young people already showing interest to join various cadres that we are recruiting. This is good as young people are fronting themselves, to serve this country,” she said.
“However, I want to address the concerns that have been raised over the years about the corruption that exist within the recruitment process. No young person should pay even one shilling to get a position in KDF, it is your right to be recruited, if you have the qualifications,” she reiterated.
She encouraged those going for recruitment, to ensure they carry all the required documents, to avoid being turned back by the recruiting officers.
The CS spoke after she led the community in planting over 5, 000 tree seedlings at Ole Ntutu Arid Zone Primary School. Among the tree seedlings planted were 500 fruit trees.
Another 10, 000 tree seedlings were given to the neighbouring schools and another 10, 000 given to the community for planting in their various homes.
“We are starting a partnership with KDF and Maasai Mara University, to ensure all trees planted grow. Restoring our environment requires collaboration, partnership and shared responsibility,” she added.
Ms. Tuya called on professionals and successful business people, to go back to their former schools and improve the image of their institutions.
“Contribute to a better school. If you walked ten kilometers 30 years ago, please give back to society by helping to build a school nearer, to reducing the kilometers the children walk,” she continued.
Also in attendance were Narok South Member of Parliament Kitilai Ntutu, Narok County Commissioner, Kipkech Lotiatia, among other top County and National government officials.
Ntutu praised Ms. Tuya for leading in tree planting, saying she did a credible job when she was working as the CS Environment, where she championed the planting of 15 billion tree seedlings in ten years.
