DCC Mwangulu urges residents to back government for development

Rachuonyo South Deputy Commissioner Silvester Mwangulu has underscored the importance of security and infrastructure as key drivers of social and economic transformation, urging residents to support government initiatives aimed at accelerating development.

Mwangulu said that sustained peace and strategic investment in infrastructure such as roads, railways, airports and energy systems are critical enablers of economic growth and improved livelihoods.

The DCC spoke during a public baraza at Kodera South Location where he also presided over the installation of Kadel Kamidigo Sub-location Chief, Monica Nyowila. He noted that development can only thrive in an environment where security is guaranteed and communities coexist peacefully.

He further highlighted the recent signing into law of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) by President William Ruto on March 9, 2026, describing it as a major milestone in financing large-scale development projects.

According to Mwangulu, the fund is designed to mobilize private capital, proceeds from public asset privatisation and pension funds to support infrastructure development across the country. These include investments in roads, railways, airports, energy transmission and water systems.

He said the initiative is expected to unlock up to Sh5 trillion over the next decade without placing excessive reliance on sovereign debt, thereby strengthening the country’s economic resilience.

The administrator called on residents to embrace unity and work closely with government agencies to support ongoing development programmes. He warned that insecurity, political violence and criminal activities could derail progress and reverse gains made in development.

“Without security, development cannot take place. People will not invest, children will not go to school, and property will not be safe,” he said, cautioning against vandalism, chaos and the rise of criminal gangs.

Mwangulu also urged religious leaders and community members to spearhead campaigns against political intolerance and hooliganism, saying peaceful coexistence is essential for meaningful economic engagement.

Also, present was Sub-County Administration Police Commander in charge of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU), David Nate, who called on parents and community members to support the fight against drug and illicit brew abuse.

Nate emphasized that government officials, including chiefs, cannot tackle the problem alone and require cooperation from the public through sharing information on drug hotspots and individuals involved.

“Support the government by sharing critical information. This will help reduce the menace and protect our youth,” he said.

He added that the government’s goal is to build a drug-free society and empower young people to engage in productive and development-oriented activities.

The commander encouraged residents to report cases of youth involved in crime or substance abuse so that they can receive guidance and rehabilitation.

“Our aim is not punishment, but to help them change and become responsible citizens,” he said.
