A businesswoman from Embu Town is crying for justice after she was allegedly assaulted by her estranged husband at her place of work on Saturday, May 3.
The incident that took place at around 11 am, left Irene Karimoni who runs an Mpesa and Stationery Shop within Embu Town CBD nursing a broken arm, bruised face and three cracked teeth from the attack.
The unfolding drama was captured on CCTV camera that the mother of a two-year-old girl is banking on to prove her case against the suspect whom she said has been terrorizing her since they parted ways before court two years ago.
Her pursuit for justice has however not borne fruit for the numerous incidents the accused has abused her both at home and in the workplace and issued her death threats.
She said the man has crafted a way of rushing to the police every time he commits the offenses to file a cover-up report to conceal evidence of his wrongdoing.
She accused the police of dragging their feet in apprehending the suspect who is roaming freely despite inflicting injuries on her and turning her life into a living hell while using his “connections” to escape justice.
Speaking from her workplace on Thursday morning, the woman suspected foul play after she was asked to report to the DCI offices to have her fingerprints taken in preparation for her arraignment in court.
She said on questioning why she was being prosecuted yet she was the victim, she said she was told that both of them would be charged for engaging in a fight.
Ms. Karimoni said this was a ploy to have the suspect end up not paying for his sins as he continues to torment her physically and emotionally.
And true to the word, the woman was arrested this afternoon, processed and locked in at Embu Police Station awaiting arraignment in court on Friday.
The woman is now living in fear alleging that the man has threatened to kill her, saying that such threats should not be taken lightly by authorities as he might one day do it.
“I have suffered depression to the point of contemplating taking my life alongside my daughter’s to escape these harrowing attacks and threats on my life,” she lamented amid sobs.
