Embu County Government Seeks Ways to Partner with Retired Military Officers

The County Government of Embu has expressed interest in partnering with retried military officers from the county with a view of utilizing their expertise in various fields to complement its work.

Governor Cecily Mbarire said their expertise especially in the areas of security and intelligence could be useful in peace building, community policing and mediation to foster peaceful coexistence in the community.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Moi Stadium while presiding over the launch of Military Veterans Embu County Chapter, Governor Mbarire affirmed her readiness to partner with them to better the county.

“My Government is ready to look into the areas we can partner with our retired officers, identify the skills available and the modalities of engagement,” she said.

She called on them to avail themselves for the opportunities that will be available in their areas of specialization to facilitate a smooth transition from military service to civilian life.

She also appealed to institutions of leaning including TVETs to engage them in teaching character development through mentorship.

This, she said, will help to instill discipline, patriotism and work ethics in the young people that they require as they prepare to enter into the job market.

“I urge our retired officers to be mentors who steer out youth from the twin ghosts of radicalization and drug abuse,” the Governor said.

She commended them for their legendary contribution in infrastructural development across the country that was also exemplified during the renovation of the stadium ahead of 2023 June 1st Madaraka Day held in Embu spearheaded by Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

At the same time, the Governor promised as a way to honor them for their service to country, to set aside a reserved place for them to sit during national day celebrations.

The Chapter Patron Major (Rtd) Charles Gituai said their members are ready and available to translate their military training and ethos, discipline and experience into civilian life.

“The veterans are a national asset that should be utilized even after retirement,” he said, noting that all the skills and competencies needed could be easily found amongst these veterans.
