Embu village gets clean piped water

Some 9000 residents of Gachuriri area of Mbeere South will now enjoy clean piped water, thanks to the Embu County Government and the Water Sector Trust Fund.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who commissioned the project at a brief ceremony at Gachuriri market said the Sh18 million project will save residents the pain of drinking contaminated water from the Kathita and Rupingazi rivers that have increasingly become polluted due to farming activities upstream.

The project saw the Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO) lay 14 kilometers of pipes that will also benefit the Gachuriri market, local health center, and schools.

The Governor announced that the provision of clean drinking water and for irrigation in the largely semiarid county will remain a priority of her government until the entire county is covered.

She said work on two mega dams on the Thuci and Thambana rivers to be constructed by the national government was at the tendering stage and that a third large dam on River Kamumu was also in the pipeline.
