Emuhaya MP, Omboko Milemba, has today urged local farmers to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant adequate crops and safeguard household food security.
He underscored that as the farmers should take advantage of government commitment and steady supply of subsidized agricultural inputs to bolster food productivity at the grassroots.
Milemba encouraged the area residents to embrace farming as a viable commercial activity, noting that subsidized fertilizer is available at Mulukhoro and Esirabe distribution centres to support farmers during the planting season.
The legislator spoke during the issuance of bursary cheques worth Sh58 million for the 2025/2026 financial year to support needy students across the constituency.
The bursary cheques were distributed at Ematsuli Senior School in North East Bunyore Ward in an exercise expected to benefit more than 8,000 learners, including about 200 Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) and students in tertiary institutions.
Speaking during the event, Milemba said the bursary programme aims to ensure that no child drops out of school due to lack of school fees.
Day secondary school students received Sh5,000 each while tertiary students will receive Sh6,000. Cheques for learners living with disabilities were issued directly to their respective schools to enhance accountability and efficiency.
The MP noted that more girls than boys benefited from the bursary allocation and emphasized the need to empower the boy child through education to ensure equal opportunities.
He dismissed claims of political interference in the bursary application process, stating that the exercise was conducted transparently and fairly to benefit all deserving learners.
“For those with concerns, my office remains open to address them. Cheques for multiple beneficiaries will be sent directly to institutions, while single-beneficiary cheques can be collected from the CDF office,” he said.
Parents and beneficiaries welcomed the bursary support, terming it timely in easing the financial burden on families and improving access to education in the constituency.
