A fisherman who drowned in Lake Victoria at Ndhuru beach in Lambwe ward, Suba North constituency on Monday, has prompted Fellow fishermen to commence a search mission to retrieve the body from the water.
The man identified as Peter Okumu was in the company of a colleague, Moses Odongo who witnessed the incident.
The local Beach Management Unit Chairman Edward Oremo said Okumu lost his life after he slipped from the boat following a storm.
Speaking to KNA, Oremo said that the deceased might have lost balance while propelling the boat and fell into the water.
Oremo said fishermen from Ndhuru and other neighboring beaches had embarked on a search mission to retrieve the body of the deceased.
The Chairperson urged fishermen to ensure they wear life jackets while in the lake to prevent such incidents.
‘l urge all fishermen to ensure they put on life jackets always because that is the only way of preventing such incidences,’’ said Oremo.
