Former cabinet secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Okengo Matiang’i has been inaugurated as the Abagusii community spokesperson and installed as a member of the Abagusii elders’ council.
The coronation ceremony was presided over by the Gusii council of elders’ chairman James Matundura yesterday at Ekerenyo grounds in North Mugirango Constituency in Nyamira County in the presence of united opposition leaders from various parts of the country and members of the public.
Gusii elders’ chairman said that there shouldn’t be any other person who will come from the Abagusii community claiming to be their spokesperson or representative since there only needs to be one who they officially inaugurated yesterday.
“Several leaders have come up claiming to be the main representative of the Omogusii community to speak on their behalf but we have today officially declared who the spokesperson of the Abagusii Community is through its culturally accepted procedure and norm,” Matundura affirmed.
He assured Matiang’i that the council officials and its entire leadership will guide and support him all the time and ensure whatever he wants to execute as the spokesperson on behalf of the Abagusii community does not in any way contravene the cultural expectations and standards.
“We wish you all the blessings and are charging you to bravely go forth with your presidential bid ambition because we are confident that you are the right person Kenya needs to move to higher development levels,” mzee Matundura commented.
Matiang’i thereafter proceeded with his tour of the Gusii region to popularize his presidential bid ambition. He has planned for a three-day tour in Gusii land till Wednesday to officially announce that he is running for presidency on a Jubilee ticket come 2027.
Matiang’i was accompanied by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka, former Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa, Peter Munya, and Ezekiel Machogu amongst several other political leaders allied to the united opposition.
Matiang’i will be touring major towns in the Gusii region including Keroka, Nyamira, Kisii, Suneka, Nyamarambe, Ogembo and Nyacheki during the three-day itinerary.
