The National government has put in place a range of policies and strategies to ensure equitable development across all regions.
Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura says this is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to ensuring that no region is left behind in national development.
Dr. Mwaura, who was speaking in Kakamega during a development tour in the Western region, noted that at least 77 high impact projects are being implemented and at different levels of completion.
The projects, he added will have a significant socio-economic impact in sectors such as infrastructure, health, and education among others.
Kakamega County alone, the spokesperson revealed, has more than 24 projects being implemented with some having been completed and awaiting inspection and handing over to the local community.
Mwaura said among the key projects include the Sh5.8 billion Kakamega gold refinery that is 88 percent complete and the Sh472 million, 220 affordable housing units at Milimani region that is 98 percent complete.
Others include the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) engineering and TVET complex that will help enhance technical and engineering training, completion of the Kakamega level 5 Teaching and Referral hospital, four water projects, and several roads construction projects.
“We have ongoing construction of aggregation and industrial park at Sinoko to serve as a key driver for value addition, job creation, and industrial growth and 1,000-acre land Navakholo irrigation project that is 80 percent complete and to benefit 2,000 farmers,” Mwaura added.
In Bungoma, he said seven road projects were under implementation to enhance connectivity and spur economic growth. Other projects are County aggregation and industrial park at Sanga’lo, Chebyuk-Kibabii water supply project, the Matulo airstrip that is 85 percent complete and Masinde Muliro stadium in Bungoma town.
“We also have the Kaduyi affordable housing project that is set to deliver 373 housing units and construction of markets under the economic stimulus program to improve the trading environment,” he said.
In Busia, Mwaura said the national government was undertaking the Lower Nzoia irrigation project, Funyula affordable housing project comprising 880 housing units which is at 40 percent progress and Alupe university students’ accommodation project at a cost of Sh1.17 billion.
In Vihiga County, the Government Spokesperson said the government was implementing 21 projects, including the already completed Stendi-Kisa –Luanda Road, Luanda modern market, Mbale Kenya Medical Training College students’ hostel and the Vihiga Affordable Housing project, comprising 220 housing units which are ready for occupation.
Mwaura said in the last three years, the government has been working to ensure all counties get equitable share of development, noting that President William Ruto was keen to ensure no region lags behind development wise.
