Bungoma County has received medical equipment worth more than Sh50 million in a major boost in provision of quality healthcare services, expected to strengthen vaccine storage, distribution and emergency medical care.
Governor Kenneth Lusaka received the equipment on Friday during a handover ceremony at Webuye County Hospital, where the Rotary Club of Bungoma Magharibi donated a refrigeration van and a vaccine cold room, while the State Department for Health Services supplied emergency medical equipment.
Lusaka said the investment would enhance the county’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare, particularly by improving immunisation services in hard-to-reach areas.
He said the refrigeration van will facilitate the safe transportation of vaccines to peripheral health facilities, while the new cold room can store more than one million vaccine doses, significantly improving the county’s vaccine storage capacity.
“The donation is a major boost to our health system and demonstrates the value of partnerships in strengthening delivery of healthcare services. We remain committed to ensuring every resident has access to quality health services,” said the governor.
Rotary Club of Bungoma Magharibi Project Service Director, Roy Wafula, said the organisation would continue partnering with the county government to improve health services in the county.
Health and Sanitation Executive Committee Member, Chrispinus Barasa, said the additional equipment would enhance immunisation coverage by ensuring vaccines are stored and distributed efficiently, enabling more children and mothers to access life-saving services.
The handover was also attended by Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, Matulo Ward MCA Stephen Simiyu, Webuye County Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. David Wanikina, members of the Bungoma County Assembly, Couny Health Committee and other stakeholders.
