Senior Secondary schools across the country are set to admit Grade 10 students throughout the week starting Monday to Friday.
In an interview with KNA in his office, Vihiga Boys High School, Principal Albert Masiolo, said that they had already started receiving students as early as 4.30 am and by 9am they had already received about 100 students.
He said that in respect to the system, he had expected 650 students but due to transfer processes the figures had dropped to about 500 students.
“The government has given us a capacity of 900 students, I therefore urge those in-charge of processing approvals to do so that we can get more students by the end of the week,” said Masiolo.
On matters preparedness, the principal clarified that they have had several meetings with teachers, continuing learners and staff to sensitize each other about the incoming students considering that they are a pioneer cohort.
He affirmed that in terms of the curriculum, the teachers have attended retooling sessions with an exception of only a few teachers.
He added that the school is offering all the three pathways which include STEM, Social Sciences, Arts and Sports.
“I can confirm that on the STEM pathway we are also offering technical courses such as Aviation, electricity and Arts and Design among others,” said Masiolo.
He concluded that he was happy that the government had released a capitation of 50% to the school and they were awaiting a circular on how the money ought to be spent.
