Implementation of CBC program on course

The implementation of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Transmara is in top gear.

This came out clear during a CBC tender monitoring and evaluation meeting bringing together heads of departments from Transmara West and Transmara South in Kilgoris.

Speaking during the exercise, Transmara West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mohammed Noor Hassan, urged participants to uphold high standards of professionalism in key areas for the program to give desired results.

His Transmara South counterpart, George Onyango, oozed optimism, pointing out the need for stakeholder cooperation as a key element to the success of the program.

“For this program to succeed, all stakeholders need to be brought on board. I advise that the smaller details need not be left out,” he added.

Sub County Director of Education in charge of Transmara West and Transmara South sub counties Chrispine Ogutu, revealed that the list of schools to benefit from the CBC classroom funding from the National Government in the region had been revised.

The new list will see 24 schools in the region benefit with Transmara West having 13 schools whereas Transmara South has 11 schools. Each of the benefiting schools is expected to receive Sh788, 000 for construction of each classroom in preparation for the junior secondary school enrollment.

However, Ogutu bemoaned the low number of contractors who have applied for the tenders to construct the classrooms saying that from Transmara West, East and South sub counties, they have only received eight applications.

“This program was an economic stimulus program which was meant to benefit locals. However, it’s unfortunate that we have so far received only eight applications from all the three sub counties,” he noted.
