Kajiado meets target in enhanced voter registration exercise

Kajiado County has surpassed its target in the just concluded Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The county recorded a total of 54,980 new voters, exceeding its set target of 52,842.

According to County Elections Manager Festus Mucheke, the exercise registered notable progress across all constituencies. Kajiado North Constituency led with 17,699 new registrations and 1,975 transfers, followed by Kajiado East Constituency with 12,657 registrations and 893 transfers.

Kajiado South Constituency recorded 9,203 new voters and 322 transfers, while Kajiado Central Constituency registered 7,882 voters with 494 transfers. Kajiado West Constituency recorded 7,540 registrations and 751 transfers.

Mucheke commended residents who turned out to register, transfer or update their voter details, noting that the exercise will continue at IEBC constituency offices, Huduma Centres and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers.

He urged eligible citizens who have not yet registered to do so, emphasizing that Article 38 of the Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to participate in electoral processes, a right that begins with voter registration.

The County Elections Manager further clarified that citizens are not required to travel to their home counties to register, as the Commission has deployed open kits enabling registration at any polling station across the country.

He also encouraged registered voters to confirm their details through the IEBC online portal.
