The National Treasury has intensified the rollout of the e-Government Procurement (eGP) system through a supplier training forum held in Kajiado County.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aimed to equip local suppliers with skills to navigate the full procurement cycle on the digital platform, including registration, tender searches, bid submission, and compliance requirements.
During the sessions, unregistered businesses were assisted to sign up on-site, while suppliers already on the system but facing technical or procedural challenges received personalized support from trainers.
Speaking at the forum, Magdalene Mashipei, Vice Chairperson of KNCCI Kajiado Chapter, encouraged suppliers to embrace the system, noting that it eliminates paperwork, reduces delays, and cuts operational costs.
“The system ensures fair competition for suppliers and contractors, reduces procurement delays, minimizes paperwork, and increases access to government business opportunities across all counties,” she said.
She added that the digital shift is intended to make public procurement more efficient, accountable, and accessible to enterprises of all sizes.
One participant, Harrison Mwaura, welcomed the initiative, saying the system will help curb corruption by making procurement data open and accessible to all stakeholders. He urged the government to sustain regular training programmes, especially on self-registration, to help suppliers submit tenders with ease.
The National Treasury officially rolled out the eGP System on 1st July 2025, following a presidential directive issued during the State of the Nation Address on 21st November 2024.
According to the ministry, full implementation of the system is expected to reduce costs of goods, works, and services; enhance transparency and efficiency; improve value for money; strengthen accountability; safeguard transaction integrity; streamline procurement procedures; and improve information management across government institutions.
To register on the eGP system, suppliers must have a valid business or company registration number from the Business Registration Service (BRS), a National ID issued by the National Registration Bureau, a business or individual PIN from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a Certificate of registration, incorporation, or compliance, and an official mobile phone number and business email address.
Suppliers are advised to update their data with relevant government agencies before initiating registration. Continued capacity building will ensure more suppliers benefit from the digital procurement platform and participate competitively in public tenders nationwide.
