Karura Town Centre in Kiambaa undergoes facelift to boost business growth

Karura Town Centre in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, is slowly taking new shape through renovation works and facelift sponsored by the Constituency Development Fund, which is patronized by the Member of Parliament (MP), John Njuguna alias Kawanjiku.

The area MP Kawanjiku highlighted that the renovation works were part of the efforts to bring sustainable business growth in the area.

“Through the ongoing tarmacking works, we are addressing the long-standing challenge of dust and mud, improving safety and mobility, revitalizing the business environment, and laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth,” Kawanjiku explained.

Speaking to residents the previous week, the first-time legislator assured them of the resumption of construction works in the area after weeks of disruption by the heavy rains that ensued in the months of April and May.

“Now that the rains have subsided, I want us to resume tarmacking and finish off that so we can proceed to other renovation works,” he affirmed.

The Kiambu County infrastructure assessment report, released in 2025, highlighted a grim picture of muddy roads as a result of heavy rains in the area, which have been disrupting the scale of businesses.

Inexistent drainage facilities and poor condition of roads for years contributed to stunted business growth, as motorists preferred alternative routes, while vehicles supplying produce got stuck often in muddy roads.

Earlier in May, MP Kawanjiku commissioned similar road works along ACK Kawaida Parish-Catholic Road, along Kawaida Police Post Road.

Despite the muddy terrain, the renovations kicked off, which the lawmaker said are long overdue, to give the residents easier accessibility and a dignified look of the area.

In Ndenderu market centre, cabro installation is also ongoing to give a facelift to the market, and town environs for hundreds of traders who operate there on a daily basis.

The Kiambaa MP also highlighted an overview of the renovation works, which are nearing completion.

“The transformation of Ndenderu Town Centre has been intentional and well planned under our leadership, and it is now truly coming to fruition,” he noted.
