Kiambu County delivered an impressive performance at the 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games held in Siaya County, securing medals across indoor, field and track events.
The week-long championship brought together teams from across the country to compete in athletics, ball games and cultural exhibitions. Kiambu athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, placing the county among the top performers in this year’s competitions.
In indoor sports, Kiambu bagged gold medals in Scrabble, Squash, Men’s Discus Throw and Men’s Shot Put. The county also dominated the Women’s 400m race, securing first place, while the Women’s 4x100m relay team scooped a silver medal. The Men’s 4x100m relay team finished fifth, and the Women’s 100m team secured a strong third-place finish.
Speaking during the team’s arrival, Kiambu County Director for Sports Mr Samuel Wachira praised the athletes for flying the county flag high and demonstrating resilience throughout the tournament.
“Our teams have shown unwavering commitment and discipline. Every medal won is a testament to months of training and the dedication of both players and coaches,” he said.
Women’s 400m gold medallist Jane Mwihaki expressed pride in her achievement and said the support from teammates and trainers played a major role in her success.
“Crossing the finish line first felt incredible. We pushed each other daily, and today it finally paid off,” she said.
The Men’s Volleyball team also battled their way to a silver medal, while the Table Tennis team earned an additional silver. In cultural performances, Kiambu delivered a strong showing, with the Cultural Borrowed group taking second place and the Folksong team finishing third. The Scrabble team added another fourth-place position in a separate category.
Sports officers noted that the results reflect growing investment in sports development within the county, calling for continued support to nurture emerging talent.
“Kiambu has immense potential. With better training facilities and expanded youth programs, we can produce even stronger teams in future competitions,” a sports official said.
Team coaches urged young athletes to take advantage of upcoming training camps and inter-ward competitions, noting that early exposure improves performance and builds confidence.
The county will continue preparing ahead of next year’s KICOSCA Games, with plans to expand mentorship programmes and strengthen coaching capacity across different disciplines.
