A family in Gede Kwa Shume village of Kilifi North Sub County, Kilifi County, is appealing for help to repatriate the body of their kin from Saudi Arabia for a decent burial.
Two daughters and a sister-in-law of Jacinta Mueni Muinde, who died more than one month ago, say the family is unable to urgently raise the Sh360,000 required to have the body released from a morgue in Saudi Arabia.
According to the late Jacinta’s sister-in-law, Gertrude Hariri Ayub, the family has until Saturday to raise and pay the money failure to which the body will be interred in Saudi Arabia, something they wouldn’t wish for.
The late Jacinta, 45, who has been working in Saudi Arabia for the last 13 years, died of high blood pressure and diabetes complications on November 9, 2025 but the family was informed by her employer on November 12, 2025.
Gertrude told reporters at Jacinta’s home within Mkenge sub location, Dabaso Ward, Kilifi North Constituency, that efforts to raise the funds from well-wishers had been unfruitful.
“We have even offered to sell part of the late Jacinta’s land to raise the funds, but no one is willing to come to our rescue. That is why we are appealing to Governor Gideon Mung’aro, our MP, Owen Baya, our MCA Emmanuel Changawa and any other well-wisher to come to our aid,” she implored.
Gertrude said Jacinta was the sole bread winner for her three daughters following the death of her husband in 2011. She had to move to Saudi Arabia to look for employment to take care of her children, one of whom has since moved to the Arabian country for work.
She said the family had informed the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about Jacinta’s death, which in turn had collaborated with the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Kenya, and that all the paper work for the repatriation of the body is ready except the money.
Ms Mueni’s daughter Roseline Sanita Sulubu, 19, and a sister to the deceased woman, Bernice Mwende, were unable to speak to journalists as they were overcome by grief.
All Roseline managed to say amid tears was: Please help us to bring my mother’s body so that we can give her a dignified burial.”
