Residents of Kirigiti, Riabai Ward in Kiambu County, are set to benefit from improved road connectivity following the commencement of road works along Waironjo Road as the short rains continue.
Kiambu Town Member of Parliament (MP) Machua Waithaka is patronizing the project through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
While announcing the commencement of the road works along Waironjo Road, MP Waithaka noted that the repairs would improve infrastructure and the business environment in the busy centres of Kirigiti and Riabai.
“We have commenced grading, compaction, and murraming of Waironjo Road, Kirigiti, Riabai Ward as part of our continued commitment to improving road infrastructure and enhancing accessibility for our residents. The project will improve mobility, strengthen connectivity, and make transportation safer and more convenient for motorists, pedestrians, and businesses that rely on this road every day,” he added.
This comes days after the completion of road works in Kiamumbi Ward, spearheaded by Kiambu MP Waithaka.
In a progress report, the first-time lawmaker noted that they had completed grading, murraming and compaction works along Elizabeth Street and were now moving to drainage works.
“We have now embarked on fixing the drainage system to effectively manage storm water and prevent flooding. The project is progressing well and, upon completion, will improve accessibility, enhance road safety, and provide a smoother transport experience for residents, motorists, and local businesses,” he noted.
The legislator has also partnered with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to expand road infrastructure in the Kihingo area.
In the previous week, Waithaka held a site handover meeting with a KURA team led by Engineer Anthony Mwai for the Ruthiruini-Kihingo Road, paving the way for the next phase of the project.
“We are set to extend the tarmac road by an additional 200 metres, with the contractor expected to commence works soon. I have instructed the contractor to ensure that proper and effective drainage is put in place to enhance the road’s durability and protect it from water damage,” he added.
The ongoing projects form part of continued efforts to improve road infrastructure within Kiambu Town Constituency, particularly in areas where poor road conditions and inadequate drainage have affected movement and access to businesses and residential areas.
