Lugari ‘fake’ unscrupulous surveyors put on notice

The government has put on notice corrupt and unlicensed land surveyors operating in Lugari Sub County following increased complaints from land buyers and sellers.

Lugari Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo who spoke during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Mlimani Comprehensive school in Mautuma location, linked the many land conflicts in the area to irregularities in the survey processes undertaken by people he described as quacks and corrupt surveyors.

He said, “I chaired my first Land Control Board meeting here in Lugari last week and I noticed the subcounty has a lot of challenges in regard to land ownership,” he said.

He alleged that the over 50 unscrupulous individuals masquerading as surveyors and operating in the sub-county are not qualified hence, they are the source of the challenges.

“They move around demarcating and surveying people’s pieces of land only to heap more problems onto them as they end up waiting for title deeds indefinitely,” he said.

Tumo said that the Sub County Land Control Board is henceforth determined to rein in the individuals and blacklist them.

“From today moving forward we shall reject any title deed application processed by rogue and unqualified surveyors. They will not only be rejected but they will also be marked till they are processed by qualified surveyors,” Tumo stated, adding that surveyors’ offices are not meant to create disputes but rather to offer services and solutions to Kenyans.

He urged residents of the cosmopolitan subcounty to live harmoniously and rally behind both the county and the national government for the sake of development.

Tumo who is new in the subcounty, reminded members of the public to always use proper and formal channels to air out their complaints rather than heckle leaders in public forums.
