In a continued effort towards boosting education, the Mandera County has launched the third phase of the Elimu Kwa Wote Sh460 million bursary programme.
Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif said the programme was set to benefit 34,372 and 5,697 secondary school and university and college students, respectively, with a total allocation.
While highlighting the programme’s success, Khalif attributed significant improvements in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education performance over the past two years to the county’s subsidised secondary education initiative.
He noted that the bursary programme has driven a remarkable 98% transition rate to secondary schools, a milestone that underscored the county’s dedication to ensuring no child is left behind in education.
“This programme demonstrates our unwavering commitment to empowering the youth of Mandera through education. I urge students to seize this opportunity to excel and contribute to the county’s prosperity,” said Governor Khalif during the launch event.
Mandera Senator Ali Roba commended the county government for its dedication to education and the empowerment of young learners.
Roba encouraged residents to support the administration in realizing its education and development goals.
“We must all rally behind this initiative to ensure the manifesto on education and other developmental programmes is fully realized,” said Senator Roba.
Mandera County Commissioner Henry Ochako also praised the programme and emphasized the importance of education.
He urged parents to take advantage of the free education opportunities and cautioned against early marriages, particularly for young girls, stressing the importance of education for all.
The Elimu Kwa Wote programme reflects the Mandera County Government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students to succeed.
With this initiative, the county continues to empower its youth, improve academic outcomes, and pave the way for a brighter and more equitable future.
